Societies
The Alberta Government Services site provides information on Charities and Fund-raising Businesses, Coops, Non-profit Companies, and Societies. Specifically for societies under the Alberta Societies Act, there is a wealth of information on the following:
Charities
The Alberta Government Services site also provides information on registered charitable orgainzations, governed by the Charitable Fund-raising Act and Regulation. The site provides information on how to register a charitable organization, an information sheet, and standards of practice.
Casinos & Bingos
The Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission licenses and regulates charitable gaming activities in the province. The site offers general gaming licence information, and there are gaming information sessions held regularly throughout Alberta. There are a variety of gaming forms, including use of proceeds guidelines for costumes, scholarships, and travel outside Alberta.
Personal Information Protection Act
On January 1, 2004, non-profit organizations in Alberta became subject to Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The Act contains a provision that limits the application of the Act to only certain personal information held by some non-profit organizations. There is an information sheet explains section 56 , and what it means for non-profit organizations.
